We believe 98.1 Nash FM, 97.3 (Ten Country) and its affiliates are not aware of what it means to purchase a dog, cat, rabbit or any animal from a pet store.  The fact is they are bred in cruel and inhumane conditions in places referred to as Puppy Mills, kitty mills, rabbit mills etc..  Puppy stores, including Puppies Plus, say their dogs/puppies are AKC registered and USDA licensed, deceiving the public into believing that these are credible, upstanding facilities and that the dogs and/or animals come from loving environments.  This is far from the truth.  The fact is they are most often bred in cruel and inhumane conditions in places referred to as Puppy Mills. There is currently a mass movement of citizens across the nation, including the state of Nevada and Washoe County, who are against and have successfully banned the purchasing of dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets from pet stores.

We are calling on 98.1 NASH FM (KBUL), 97.3 (TEN COUNTRY) and its affiliates to pull the ad currently running for Puppies Plus and any other pet store advertising.

Why are citizens across the nation saying no to pet stores and what happens at puppy mills?

The animals come from parents who live in horrific, cruel conditions:

• Never leaving their wire cages, paws never touching the ground, some never see the light of day, unless their cages are outside and then they are not protected from the outside elements.
• Living in their bodily waste, hair matted, starved, forced to reproduce and nurse litter after litter until their little bodies are not able and then they are considered no longer useful.
• Denied even basic veterinary care, causing dogs to suffer from all kinds of diseases, wounds and injuries for years.
• Puppies/dogs are shipped across the U.S. to pet stores and many dogs die during transport. All too often the puppies are plagued with a lifetime of medical problems, frequently dying from these complications, leaving owners with expensive vet bills and heartbreak.

Big box stores, such as PetCo ("Think Adoption First®" ) and PetSmart (PetSmart Charities® Adoption Centers) stopped selling puppies, kitties and rabbits long ago and support adoption only, through accredited non-profit shelter organizations. Locally owned pet stores have also converted to selling food and supplies only!
