Save our SA Marine Parks

If you love our amazing marine life like seals, dolphins, blue devils, weedy & leafy sea dragons and blue groper then I really need your help.

I own a dive store in Adelaide and like many others in the industry in South Australia I’ve been looking forward to our new network of marine parks and sanctuaries coming into effect on 1 October this year. The Diving community in SA has been looking forward to it as a move in the right direction for the preservation of our waters and marine life.

That’s why I was so alarmed when I heard about a bill put forward by the State Liberal Environment spokeswoman to remove some of the best marine sanctuaries, or no-take zones, in this new network. Sanctuaries that would protect some of our most loved marine animals and our biggest draw cards as well as fish nurseries and spawning grounds.

Unfortunately, this bill passed the Upper House a few weeks ago and now it just has to pass the Lower House and it becomes law, wiping out protection for some of the jewels in the crown like Neptune Island and Rapid Head. We can’t let this happen.

Here’s how you can help.

The fate of our marine sanctuaries now rests with just two Independent Ministers, Martin Hamilton-Smith and Geoff Brock. I really believe that if they hear how important protecting marine life is to people like you they’ll vote against this bill.

Please sign my petition today if you support protecting our marine life here in South Australia.

One thing about these new marine parks is that just 6% of the entire network was going to become marine sanctuaries in the first place. Just 6 percent! This bill would reduce that down to 4%. People travel from all over the world to experience the unique diving and marine life South Australian waters ahve to offer.

As somebody who talks to divers and snorkelers every day, I know how much passion there is out there for protecting our oceans and marine life.

Please show Mr Hamilton-Smith and Mr Brock this by signing my petition so that we can protect some of our best dive spots and our marine life into the future.

Thank you, I really appreciate your support.

PS. Here in South Australia we have more unique marine species than in the Great Barrier Reef, we should be doing more to protect it, not less! Please sign my petition and share it with others to get as many signatures as possible.
