Beyond Meat is launching a new breakfast sausage and Martha Stewart signed on to endorse the product--with her website noting that she is embracing plant-based eating. Join us in applauding the progress and urging her to drop her seafood partnership with a quick Instagram comment.

Plant-based giant Beyond Meat is launching its new breakfast sausage in grocery stores later this month. Martha Stewart must have struck up a relationship with the brand after being the spokesperson for Subway Canada’s nationwide launch of the Beyond Meatball Marinara sub because she’s now endorsing the breakfast sausage, as well.

MarthaStewart.com just released an article about the partnership, noting that “while Martha has been enjoying plant-based ingredients for years, she says that she has recently started to dramatically reduce her meat consumption.” The article goes on to note that Stewart’s daughter is vegetarian and her two grandchildren “are very astute to the problems created by farming meat”--although they still eat fish.

Unfortunately, the suffering of fish in the seafood industry is often forgotten--despite the fact that they are the most-killed animal for food in the world: at least a trillion every year. The cruelty brought to light through our undercover investigation at one of Cooke Aquaculture’s hatcheries (which is marketed by True North Seafood) was only one example of the abuse and neglect that is pervasive throughout the industry, and the negative impacts on our health and environment extend to commercial fishing, too. Join us with a quick Instagram comment applauding Martha Stewart’s transition to plant-based foods--but be sure to let her know that we won’t quit until she cuts ties with cruel True North.
