Maricopa County Home & Garden Show taking place in Scottsdale, AZ has invited Martha Stewart as a special celebrity guest offering meet and greets throughout the weekend. So, Compassion Over Killing’s Mike Wolf attended the event to urge Martha to turn the tides for fish in the wake of our recent undercover investigation, which was conducted at a salmon hatchery owned by the parent of True North--maker of Martha Stewart’s new salmon line.
COK’s investigative footage uncovered workers throwing improperly anesthetized fish across great distances. Sometimes they were thrown into another tank; other times, into waterless buckets, where they were left to either be crushed by others or suffocate to death. Fish were seen deformed and missing eyes, covered in fungi, and trapped in baron, filthy tanks.
Martha Stewart, a self-proclaimed animal lover, recently teamed up with the owner of this cruel hatchery to offer a seafood line sold on Amazon.com. Since our investigation was released, more than 10,000 of you have urged Martha to cut ties with True North’s cruelty--but she’s yet to issue a formal response. So Mike headed to the event in Scottsdale to find out: In light of our footage, will Martha Stewart cut ties with this murky industry?
The celebrity responded to COK’s questioning with only one line: “I’m not talking about that.”
