True North’s parent company Cooke Aquaculture is apologetic over the contents of COK’s undercover investigation--but the cruelty continues. Join us in urging Martha Stewart to cut ties with the sorry company and invest in a vegan seafood with a quick Instagram comment!
After the release of our ground-breaking and horrifying undercover investigation, Glenn Cooke, Co-founder and CEO of Cooke Aquaculture (the company which markets under True North Seafoods and recently teamed up with home-making icon Martha Stewart), released a statement on the company’s website claiming the footage made him “disappointed and deeply saddened.”
“I am very sorry that this has happened,” Cooke continued regarding the cruelty uncovered by our investigator. Yet the company hasn’t taken any meaningful action--allowing the cruelty to continue. COK’s footage reveals workers throwing improperly anesthetized fish across great distances, sometimes into waterless buckets, where they were left to either be crushed by others or suffocate to death. Hatchery employees were also recorded stomping on fish's heads and slamming them against the ground multiple times in failed efforts to kill them. Often, they were left on the ground, still conscious and writhing in pain.
As long as animals are being killed for human consumption, there will always be something to be sorry about. That’s why we’re asking Martha Stewart to cut ties with True North Seafood and pursue a vegan alternative instead. Plant-based seafood is healthier, better for our oceans, and free from animal cruelty--it’s an industry that has nothing to be sorry for!
