Markeaton Park Skatepark
The Issue
We are calling on Derby City Council to upgrade, expand, and modernise Markeaton Skatepark and construct an adjacent all-abilities pump track. Markeaton Park is one of Derby's primary green spaces, yet its current skatepark facilities are severely outdated, undersized, and lack diverse features for the region's growing wheeled-sports community.
Markeaton Skatepark is currently too small to handle the volume of local youth, families, and riders who use it daily. The lack of varied obstacles and modern design limits skill progression for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter users, and roller-skaters alike. Upgrading this space into a modern, inclusive wheeled-sports facility will benefit the community in several key ways:
- Safety & Capacity: The current small footprint causes overcrowding, increasing the risk of collisions between beginners and experienced riders.
- Community Health & Wellbeing: Providing an expanded skatepark and a dedicated pump track encourages active, outdoor lifestyles for young people and adults across Derbyshire.
- Inclusivity: A modern redesign alongside a pump track creates accessible space for all skill levels and disciplines—from young children learning to balance on bikes to advanced skateboarders.
- Positive Youth Engagement: High-quality public recreation facilities give young people a safe, productive space to gather, build community, and stay active.
We, the undersigned, petition Derby City Council to:
Allocate funding and resources toward replacing the existing Markeaton Skatepark with a modern, expanded concrete layout featuring varied obstacles.
Incorporate an all-abilities asphalt pump track alongside the new skatepark design.
Engage with the local riding community during the design phase to ensure the facility meets the community's needs.
The petition expiry date is on the 15/10/26.
