Stop The School Crisis

The Issue

Bishops Stortford schools are at crisis point. 1.43% of children in Hertfordshire were not allocated a school place in the first round of the school admissions process for primary schools April 16: 24 of these children are in East Herts and Bishops Stortford is at crisis point because Bishops Stortford's schools are over subscribed.

Parents are being forced to send their young children further and further away to school, across the county. New homes are being built all over Bishops Stortford, and schools are not being built simultaneously to keep up with the ever increasing demand of school places.

The council have been aware for years of the school shortage and they are not doing enough.

Our son, Oliver Coupland, who lives in Wilson Close, 500m away from his closest school, appears to live in a 'black spot' where he was not close enough (by a matter of metres) to get into any of his closest local primary schools. He is not the only one.

This problem will impact children next year, and every year, if the issue is not addressed, properly, now. We can only speculate at the nightmare that will ensue by the time these 4-years-olds want a Secondary school place in Bishops Stortford.

We want the council to give us answers and reassure us that we are living in a flourishing community where all children are given the opportunity of a local high quality education in a local school.
