A document by the Combined Medical Leads Advisory Group, which comprises representatives from the biggest hospitals in WA, says now is the time to act.

The cohort includes Clinical Professor Michaela Lucas, who is the incoming President of the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy and immunologist at PathWest.“This is a time-critical recommendation,” the document prepared by Dr Stephen Watts on behalf of the advisory group reads:

"Particular attention should be paid to extending isolation restrictions to include all personal Interstate travel."

The advisory group notes WA is currently at a different point in the exposure curve compared to the other states.

"Early action taken now will have big gains and provide broader protection," the document states. Undiagnosed cases from the eastern states will add significant burden to the WA population and risks accelerating our curve."

“We have less flexibility in the distribution of critical care resources available and an extended re-supply timeline compared to eastern states.”

We need to stop all travel into WA now! We know that the other states have significant community spread - continuing interstate is wantingly and recklessly encouraging that spread to come to Western Australia. 

Let's use our distance to our advantage - help the other states but also protect ourselves and close the border to all travel.
