Please air West Perth matches

The issue

Local football needs the support of television networks and sponsors to survive.  We need the community to get behind this petition to help Channel 7 understand that our local football community is important to us.

Sponsors are necessary for the survival of community football, and it is important that Channel 7 put perceived commercial issues aside and support the local football community and a local club who has done so much for football in the northern suburbs of Perth and the WAFL in general. This issue doesn't just affect West Perth, it affects all clubs.

In 2014, West Perth Football Club were fortunate to attract the sponsorship of Channel 9. This was quite a coup for a local football club and West Perth are extremely appreciative of the support of Channel 9.

At the time of the sponsorship, West Perth games were televised on the ABC, who had no issue with teams displaying sponsors on their jumpers despite their advertising policy.

Sometime before the beginning of this season, but after Channel Nine signed on to support the club, the WAFL did a deal with Channel 7 for the rights of the local games.

Channel 7 have insisted that unless West Perth remove their sponsor from their jumpers, they will not broadcast their matches.  This is unfair and not acceptable to West Perth or their sponsor and supporters.

Local football needs  the support of Channel 7, and implores them to think of the community and of supporters in regional areas who cannot get to the games.  This issue is bigger than a small logo on the front of a jumper.

Channel 7 should follow the AFL lead on this, where the TOYOTA sponsored AFL season has seen players sporting jumpers sponsored by VW and KIA.

Mario D'Orazio will win a lot of fans by overturning this decision and thinking of the local football community and supporters all over the state.

Please support a local club  and put West Perth on the air.

If you support your local sporting community, please join me, a fan of local football, in asking Mario Dorazio to put West Perth back on the air.
