Protest educates and sues SCVWD to stop fluoride in San Jose by Arlene Goetze, Health Writer, Oct. 26, 2016 Some 50 peaceful protesters gathered outside the Santa Clara Valley Water District, SCVWD, headquarters October 25 to educate, sue, and ask the water board to stop its plans for fluoridation of 21 zip codes in San Jose and 4 other towns on December 5. The group first chanted and waved large posters for TV cameras before 14 of them took the microphone to educate the water board. Chair Barbara Keegan has admitted twice in public meetings that 'I know nothing about fluoride. I have to depend on experts." Two of the board 'experts' were in the audience and also spoke. Howard Pollick, MPH of the California Fluoridation Task Force, urged fluoridation although he published his own study in 2003 in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry proving that 'fluoridation of drinking water "does not have a strong protective effect against early childhood caries. There is no difference between children in cities with or without fluoride." Dentist John Pisacane wrote in a Letter to the Mercury News a few years ago, mixing up the topical power of sodium fluoride put on teeth vs the systemic action of hydrofluosilicic acid swallowed by drinking. He still urged the board to fluoridate with no specific studies proving fewer cavities. Activists who spoke Speaking against fluoride, Dr. David Kennedy, world lecturer and former President of International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, explained the FDA action stopping the sale of fluoride supplements this year. He spoke about dose and concentration of the hydrofluosilicic acid, HFSA, a toxic waste from phosphate fertilizer that is used to fluoridate. Dr Keith Howe, who does his own kidney dialysis which must not use fluoride, discussed many damages to the kidney and other organs. Attorney Gary Wesley filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of the wholesale water board because it does not by law have the power to put an 'untested' drug in drinking water. Other speakers stressed studies from ADA, NIH, CDC who often advocate both sides of the issue. Fluoridated cities still have epidemic amounts of cavities which prove fluoride in tap water does not stop cavities. The protest was organized by Healthy Alternatives to Pesticide and supported by other local groups active in stopping fluoridation in Santa Clara County. Hydrofluosilicic acid will be put in water for 21 zip codes in San Jose including one each in Campbell, Milpitas, Los Gatos and Los Altos on Dec. 5 by the San Jose Water Company. It writes in a letter to consumers that it is 'neutral' on the issue but also recommends that they stop fluoride supplementation. Dr. Sara Cody, director of Santa Clara County Health and primary expert for the water board, recommends to health professionals the supplemental drops and tablets only be stopped for a year because they can overdose children. She deals with 86 zip codes on three amounts of fluoride relative to how much each zip code gets in each home. Many zip codes include fluoridation by other water districts which don't apply to SCVWD. Cody expects health pros to get info about fluoride amount going in each home as well as the varying amounts in county water before returning the use of supplements a year later. It is the weather that determines how much is put in the water each day so that may be impossible to measure. End ------------------------------ N.B. A few years ago I called several labs to see about lab tests for fluoride in the body. I found none. The USDA analyzed 405 foods with fluoride in 2004, making it possible for humans to figure out how much they are overdosed with this toxic waste of fertilizer. What is put in the water also goes in food. Only 1% of water is used for drinking; 99% goes in the environment where it is not allowed.
