Reject Bill C-51

The Issue

Bill C-51 is not merely an assault on our liberties and democratic freedoms, but is legislation that has its basis in illegality. C-51 is both unconstitutional - in that it contravenes the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms- and is in violation of the U.N. Covenant of Civil and Political Rights.

“The Green Party of Canada was the first federal party to oppose Bill C-51. We presented 60 amendments to Bill C-51 during the committee stage, more than the Liberals and NDP combined, all of which were defeated. Bill C-51 will not make Canadians safer. It will do the opposite. The RCMP should disrupt threats, CSIS should gather intelligence, and both need oversight. Bill C-51 cannot be fixed. It must be repealed in its entirety. ”
