Add Mark Freeze for Secondary Students in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board

The Issue

Recently, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) announced that their secondary students' marks will only reflect work done up to December 17 and that marks cannot drop from work done after that date. This means that if a student had 90% in a course at December 17, that would be the minimum mark they can achieve for their final course marks (i.e. marks cannot drop and can only increase from their December 17 level). The purpose of this announcement was to alleviate stress and acknowledge the difficulties that students faced in the two weeks of remote learning that schools went into following the winter break. This provides a massive advantage, especially for Grade 12 students applying to university.

As students in the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board have faced the same difficulties as TDSB students, we are petitioning for the same treatment. We have gone through the same remote learning period and we feel that if one group of students receives this advantage, our school board should too. In the name of fairness and equality, we sincerely request that the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board implement this mark freeze for all secondary students.
