The Issue

Every time I step onto the cold floor of an ice rink, my excitement is overshadowed by a recurring issue. Despite being a paying member, I am frequently directed to a random locker room or even a supply closet to change. This experience is not just inconvenient, but deeply unsettling and, frankly, misogynistic. Ice rinks are a symbol of community and sport, yet neglect to provide essential facilities for women, fostering an environment of inequality.

The absence of female locker rooms at ice rinks is indicative of a broader issue: the disregard for women's needs in sports facilities. In the 21st century, it's unacceptable that women athletes are denied the same privacy and respect as their male counterparts. This oversight can no longer be ignored or excused. Imagine stepping in   to an arena eager to give your best on the ice, only to be reminded that your presence isn't valued equally.

Statistics from the Women's Sports Foundation indicate that over 4.5 million women participate in ice sports in the United States alone. Despite this considerable number, many facilities remain outdated, with no provisions for women’s locker rooms. This disparity not only affects comfort and convenience but can also discourage participation from women and young girls who feel their sports community doesn't fully respect or represent them.

We call upon ice rink owners, sports federations, and local government authorities to recognize the importance of providing separate women's locker rooms in every facility. Allocating space for these locker rooms should be a priority in both existing venues and new constructions. It is time to take action and set a standard that promotes inclusivity and gender equality. With a concerted effort, we can create a more welcoming environment for all athletes.

Sign this petition to demand the inclusion of women's locker rooms in every ice rink. Stand with us in supporting gender equality and improving facilities for women athletes everywhere. Your signature matters and can lead to the change necessary for fair treatment in sports venues.
