The Issue

There are people who grapple daily with the challenge of education, not because of their intellectual capacity, but due to physical restrictions. One such case is having difficulties accessing educational facilities due to a lack of wheelchair-friendly infrastructure. This is not an isolated incident, but an issue faced by numerous students around the country.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act require that schools make their programs accessible to all students. However, not all facilities are compliant or offer full accessibility, leaving some students behind.

It's saddening that in this era, schools inaccessible to wheelchairs can even exist. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reports that approximately 6.7 million children in the U.S. receive special education services, and many of them have physical disabilities that require the use of a wheelchair. Yet, not every town boasts of a school that is wheelchair-accessible.

Education is our basic right and being differently-abled should not restrict anyone from receiving it. Let's not be part of a society that builds barriers but part of a movement that breaks them down. By requiring every town to have at least one wheelchair-accessible school, we can help make education more inclusive and accessible to all.

Please sign this petition so that wheelchair users can have the same educational opportunities as everyone else. Let's make this change together.
