Mandate Water Drip Systems in all Public Gardens of New York State
The Issue
I have always noticed that sprinkler systems are very inefficient in public gardens; they spray water everywhere, soak everything in sight, and waste a huge amount of water.Which could be used for other things such as for drinking, it's disturbing to me that we waste so much water when people have to walk miles just to get what we take for granted; water. Being environmentally conscious and a resident of New York myself, this has always been a matter of concern for me.
Drip irrigation systems are known for their efficiency. They deliver water directly to the roots of plants, ensuring that no water is wasted due to evaporation or water being sprayed in unnecessary places such as a road. This method saves around 30-50% more water compared to the classic sprinkler system, according to the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
New York State is home to well over 1,000 public gardens, according to Agriculture and Markets (.gov). If all these gardens switch to the water drip irrigation system, imagine the amount of water we will save. This can contribute to the conservation of water resources at a time when many parts of the world are facing severe water scarcity.
We are seeking attention from the local authorities and garden management bodies to consider this significant change. We request and urge the New York State policy makers to frame a law making it mandatory to use water drip systems in all public gardens in the state.
Help us in this dire necessity to conserve water. Sign this petition and join us in bringing this significant change in New York State’s public gardens.
