Mandate the Use of Christmas Tree Angel Sprinkler System in Forest-City/Town Interfaces
The Issue
I am committed to finding a solution. I've been closely following innovations in fire prevention technology and was particularly inspired by Greg Chavez, an American firefighter who was a finalist on the reality show, American Inventor. Chavez designed the Christmas tree angel sprinkler system—a technology upcoming with tremendous potential to mitigate fire damage on a larger scale with already available rivers and streams.
Neither a forest nor a town or city can stand alone in efforts to prevent disastrous fires. This is why using the Christmas tree angel sprinkler system at forest-city/town interfaces is crucial. This technology uses sensors to detect heat and activates a sprinkler system to prevent a fire from spreading. If forest-city/town interfaces were required to implement this system, fires near urban areas could become a problem of the past.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, approximately 6,873 fires burned across 273,244 acres of National Forest System lands in 2020, and almost 60% of new homes in the U.S. are being built in the wildland-urban interface, where residential properties and wildland vegetation intermingle. This indicates the growing need for efficient fire prevention strategies on these intermingling landscapes.
Our communities, forests, wildlife, and people's lives are at stake. It's time for policy that requires the use of proven fire prevention technology, like the Christmas tree angel sprinkler system, along side natural water way's ready to syphon from.
