Mandate the Tinting of Reflective Building Windows to Protect Birds in Norwalk, CA

The Issue

I am a healthcare worker of Norwalk, CA and have personally witnessed the devastating impact that reflective building windows can have on our local bird population. On multiple occasions, I've found injured or dead hummingbirds at the entrance of our building. Out of five birds found, I was only able to rescue two. It's heart-wrenching to see these beautiful creatures suffer from their horrendous injuries.

Reflective windows pose a significant threat to birds as they often mistake them for open sky or trees reflected in the glass. According to a study by the American Bird Conservancy and New York City Audubon, up to one billion birds die each year in North America alone due to window collisions.

Norwalk is home to various bird species including hummingbirds which are particularly vulnerable due their fast flight speed and small size. The loss of these birds not only affects our local ecosystems but also robs us of their beauty and grace.

We need immediate action from our city officials. We urge them to mandate that all reflective buildings in Norwalk tint their windows from reflective surfaces into solid coverings. This simple change can drastically reduce bird collisions and save countless lives.

Please sign this petition if you believe that we should protect our feathered friends from unnecessary harm caused by human structures.
