If you have been a responsible tenant, always paying your rent on time or even ahead of schedule. Yet, despite this dedication you or someone you know have found themselves marginalized and / or discriminated over having a 689 versus a 690 credit score, you should help by signing and sharing this petition. This is an issue that affects many renters across the country who are not getting the credit they deserve for their timely payments because their payments don’t get reported to a credit bureau to demonstrate the responsibility to meet financial obligations. The
Rent is one of the most significant expenses individuals or families bear each month. However, unlike mortgage payments which positively impact homeowners' credit scores when paid on time, rent payments do not offer similar benefits to tenants due to non-reporting by landlords. According to Experian, one of the three major credit bureaus in the U.S., only 1% of its files include rental information (Experian RentBureau report).
This petition seeks to change this discrepancy by requiring all landlords to report on-time rent payments to all three major credit bureaus - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. This will ensure that responsible tenants receive appropriate recognition for their financial reliability and help improve their overall credit scores.

Discrimination and exclusion have long been significant factors shaping the housing market. While the Fair Housing Act is an important cornerstone of ensuring that the housing market is equal and fair, there is a continuing need to bolster existing laws and enforcement efforts and to
pass new laws to address the nation’s fair housing needs. To this day, millions of renters experience discrimination in the housing market annually, although a large share never report it.
Discrimination in housing takes many forms, many of which can be difficult to identify. For example, research finds that in many markets property managers are less likely to respond to prospective Black and Latino tenants when they inquire about open rental listings, thus driving
disparate housing options and outcomes. People with disabilities face unequal treatment, access barriers, harassment, retaliation, discriminatory statements, and failure to provide reasonable accommodations for policies and allowance for reasonable modifications to unit design at disproportionate levels. Likewise, survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking are at greater risk of homelessness and housing discrimination because of the violence committed against them. Congress recently addressed this through strengthened protections in the 2022 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
Join us in advocating for fairer treatment from Authoritarian Boards, Property Managers and better opportunities for renters nationwide by signing this petition today!
