I am a student who has consistently been burdened by the overwhelming amount of homework assigned to me. This has not only hindered my ability to participate in extracurricular activities but also caused undue stress and annoyance. It is time we address this issue head-on.

Homework, which was initially designed as a tool for reinforcement of classroom learning, has evolved into an excessive burden on students across the United States. According to a study by Stanford University, more than two hours of homework per night may be counterproductive (Stanford University, 2014). The same study found that excessive homework leads to high stress levels and physical health problems among students.

Moreover, countries like Finland - which are consistently ranked among the top in education - have minimal or no homework policies yet their students excel acadically (OECD Report, 2016). This clearly indicates that success in education does not necessarily correlate with hours spent on homework.

We believe that it's time for all schools across America to reconsider their stance on assigning homework and instead focus on fostering an environment where learning can happen without unnecessary pressure. We urge lawmakers and educational bodies alike to mandate the prohibition of homework in all U.S schools.
