I am a grieving parent who lost my daughter unexpectedly at a local daycare centre in Cincinnati. The staff discovered her not breathing, and there was not an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) at the facility that could have been used to resuscitate her. This tragedy could have potentially been avoided with the presence of an AED. I am now calling for a transformation in the law to mandate AEDs in all daycare centres across Cincinnati, OH.

AEDs are lifesaving emergency equipment. They can be used by anyone, regardless of medical training, to help restore a regular heartbeat in case of a sudden cardiac arrest(SuddenCardiacArrestFoundation). Their quick and effective use significantly increases the survival rate. However, a 2018 project by the New England Journal of Medicine found that less than 20% of United States public locations had an AED immediately accessible (New England Journal of Medicine).

No parent should go through the anguish of knowing that a readily available, life-saving device could have saved their child's life. Let's make sure this does not happen again. By altering the law, Ohio, can lead the way for the nation, making children's safety a non-negotiable priority.
