Mandate Social Media Platforms to Label AI-Generated Images

Mandate Social Media Platforms to Label AI-Generated Images
The Issue
I am one among many who have been shocked by the increasing use of artificial intelligence in generating realistic images on social media platforms. These images, often used in political posts, are so convincing that they are mistaken for reality. In one instance, an image was even blurred by Facebook as it was deemed "too graphic". This misuse of technology is not only misleading but also contributes to the spread of false information and propaganda.
Artificial Intelligence has its time and place, but using it for propaganda is not where it belongs. It's time we demand transparency from major social media platforms like Meta (formerly Facebook), X.com, TikTok and others.
According to a study published in Nature Machine Intelligence journal (2020), AI-generated 'deepfake' images can be almost indistinguishable from real photos for over 40% of people. This highlights the potential scale of misinformation that could be spread through such deceptive practices.
We must take action now to ensure that our online spaces remain free from deception and manipulation. We call upon these social media giants to implement clear labeling or warnings on all AI-generated images posted on their platforms.
By signing this petition, you're taking a stand against false information and deception online. Let's keep our internet honest!
