Mandate Reporting of Accidental Cat Collisions on Roads - TILLY'S LAW
The Issue
- On Friday, 6th October, a beloved local cat called Tilly in Gosport met with a tragic end. This feline, who had become an icon in our town centre, was hit by a vehicle and sadly passed away. Tilly’s family are devasted by the loss of their Bengal cat. They have lost two cats in the small space of just 2 months, both being hit by cars and passing away due to to this. This incident has deeply affected our community and brought to light an issue that needs immediate attention. Every year, countless cats are hit on the roads across the country and many of these incidents go unreported. According to PETA UK (2019), thousands of cats are victims of road accidents annually in the UK alone.
We believe that it is crucial for drivers to report any accidental collisions with cats or any other animals on the roads. This will not only help us understand the extent of this problem but also aid in providing timely assistance to injured animals where possible.
The loss we've experienced is profound and we don't want any other community or pet owner to go through this pain. Therefore, we call upon lawmakers to enact legislation requiring drivers to report if they accidentally hit a cat on the roads.
Please sign this petition if you believe in safeguarding our feline friends and making our roads safer for all creatures big and small.
