Mandate Regular Audits and Updates of In-Network Providers by Health Insurance Companies

The Issue

I am one among many who have been unable to obtain healthcare due to outdated listings provided by health insurance companies. This is not just an inconvenience, but a serious barrier to accessing essential healthcare services. It's time for change.

Health insurance companies must be held accountable for keeping their list of in-network providers up-to-date. We propose that all health insurance companies should be required to perform an audit of their in-network providers at minimum every 3 years, and update their lists as needed, and should be required to perform an immediate audit when they are informed that their information is incorrect.

This is not just about improving service quality; it's about ensuring access to care. According to the American Journal of Managed Care, inaccurate provider directories can lead patients to make decisions based on incorrect information, potentially resulting in unexpected out-of-pocket costs (AJMC, 2018). Automotive insurance companies are able to maintain up-to-date lists of approved service providers, and there is no reason why health insurance companies should not be held to the same standard.

The current situation leaves millions at risk - people like me who are left stranded without access to necessary medical services because our insurers fail us with outdated information.

Let's hold these corporations accountable and ensure they provide accurate, timely information so we can all access the healthcare we need when we need it most. Please sign this petition today and demand regular audits and updates from health insurance companies.
