Mandate NJ Transit to Install a Ramp and Elevator for Public Use

The Issue

I am a citizen residing in Dunellen, NJ and I commute daily for work. As a parent, each day I face an uphill battle – literally and figuratively – when I navigate the public transit system with my baby and stroller. My journey involves a hard struggle, carrying my baby, the stroller and all other belongings up a flight of stairs to catch the train. The absence of a ramp or an elevator at the local NJ Transit Station makes the daily commute physically challenging and stressful for me and other commuters in similar situations.

The Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey reveals that over 6% population in Dunellen, NJ are under 5 years (Source: Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey). This signifies that there are potentially many other parents encountering similar struggles daily. Additionally, the lack of accessibility features also negatively impacts the elderly and individuals with mobility problems.

We must urge NJ Transit to address this oversight and take immediate steps to improve the accessibility of their services. Installing a ramp and an elevator is an essential step towards creating an inclusive, accessible, and convenient public transit system for everyone.

We call upon NJ Transit to prioritize the building of a ramp and an elevator at the upcoming renovations. Join us in transforming the daily commuting experience for many Dunellen citizens. Please sign and share this petition. Let's make our voices heard together!
