Mandate Medical Facilities to Publish Treatment Expenses on Websites

Mandate Medical Facilities to Publish Treatment Expenses on Websites
The Issue
In my personal experience, I have found striking inconsistencies between quoted and actual medical fees. I once called my dentist regarding an upcoming procedure and was given an estimate over the phone. To my surprise, on the day of the appointment, the front desk lady handed me a significantly higher bill. Upon inquiry, the amount mysteriously changed back to the initial quote. And the copay I received from self-purchase insurance is far higher than the actual copay. The insurance company told me I don’t really need to pay those expenses, and they also won’t send it to the collection agency neither; they are just for “showing” purposes in my statement. Intransparent leave room for scam. Those incidents made me realize that such discrepancies might happen more often than we think and can affect anyone, particularly those without extensive knowledge of medical expenses.
This is why I am raising this petition for every medical facility to publish the expenses for the treatment of every illness of the patient on their websites and the State Department of Health. With public access to these expenses, patients could compare them and avoid potential overmedication charges.
A 2017 article from JAMA revealed that the U.S. spends nearly twice as much on healthcare as ten high-income countries, largely due to higher prices and greater use of medical services.
Transparency is the foundation of trust. And trust is the pillar of any strong healthcare system. With transparency in medical expenses, we can preserve the integrity of patient-caregiver relationships and promote a healthier society.
Please sign this petition to endorse a more transparent medical billing system nationwide. Together, we can hold medical facilities accountable and ensure fair treatment for all.
