Mandate lights and sirens for all emergency responses

The Issue

Two juvenile girls, full of life and dreams, riding on an electric bike, were recently victims of a tragic accident involving an ambulance. This was not just another misfortunate event; it was a preventable tragedy. The ambulance, en route to an emergency, was not using  sirens due to a petition that had recently been signed to limit siren use in that area. As a result, the girls were unaware of the ambulance's presence until it was too late. One of them lost her life, and the other is currently battling for her life in the hospital.

Every second counts in an emergency, and both visibility and auditory signals are crucial for ensuring safety on the roads. Emergency vehicles equipped with lights and sirens provide vital warnings to pedestrians and other road users, allowing everyone to make safe and prompt adjustments.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal that emergency vehicle crashes lead to numerous unnecessary fatalities each year. Many of these tragedies could be avoided with proper warning systems in place. When emergency vehicles are appropriately audible and visible, the community as a whole benefits from a safer environment.

We propose that all emergency vehicles, including ambulances, must use both lights and sirens during emergency responses. This ensures that pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists are adequately warned of an approaching emergency vehicle, thereby reducing the likelihood of tragic accidents.

Implementing this change will save lives. Our roads will be safer, and emergency responders will be able to perform their duties more effectively. Join us in this life-saving mission. Demand that legislation be enacted requiring the use of both lights and sirens for all emergency vehicles responding to calls. Please sign this petition and help us make this essential safety measure a reality. Together, we can prevent senseless tragedies and ensure the safety of everyone on our roads.
