I am a student who wishes to partake in a flexibility-driven, homeschooled education while also wanting to immerse myself fully in the exciting world of school sports. The current Killeen Independent School District (KISD) policies, unfortunately, restrict students like me from participating in sports if they are homeschooled. This petition aims to make our voices heard and bring about a change in the existing regulations. According to a 2017 study by National Home Education Research Institute, there are over 2.3 million homeschooled students in the United States. This statistic underscores the pressing need for a policy revision in districts such as KISD. The Texas Homeschool Coalition Association further highlights the benefits of sports and the manifold ways these activities assist in character development and physical health. By prohibiting a considerable faction of students from participating in these activities, KISD is denying us the chance to experience holistic growth. We propose a policy revision to KISD that would ensure that all students, regardless of their schooling choice, have equal opportunity to participate in sports. Let's push for inclusivity, equal opportunities, and comprehensive growth.
