Mandate Improved Annual Antisemitism Training for UCSB Faculty and Staff

Mandate Improved Annual Antisemitism Training for UCSB Faculty and Staff
The Issue
We as a UCSB community need to work to gather to combat antisemitism on our own campus!
On October 7th 2023, the terrorist group called Hamas launched a vicious attack on the Nova music festival in Isreal. With hundreds of murders that day alone, and hundreds more dragged away into captivity, this was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The sheer amount of sexual violate that took place on a single day, and for almost 500 days since with many still in captivity, is more devastating for our people than words can explain.
Ever since the brutal attack on the Nova festival, my Jewish community, my friends, and myself have faced immense increases of antisemitism here at UCSB.
Rates of antisemitism everywhere, specifically on collage campus, have skyrocketed and our Jewish students need help now more than ever.
To address this issue at UCSB, we need more comprehensive and frequent antisemitism training for our UCSB Faculty and Staff. Antisemitism has seeped into many cracks here at UCSB and Jewish students feel these effects everyday. From examples some professors use in class that alienate us, to our own peers chanting "from the river to the sea", a slogan calling for the removal of a Jewish state entirely. We've had to endure harassment, being followed around by cameras, physical violence, swastikas being drawn on our cars, and a lack of safety on our own campus. It need to stop, and to starts with those who should be protecting us.
UCSB Faculty and Staff must be trained on how to spot and stop antisemitism, as well as be educated on what this truly means. Most of the issues were facing come down to a lack of education, which can be fixed. Many don't even understand the gravity of the slogans they should, yet alone their antisemitic backgrounds.
It's time we hold our school accountable for allowing our campus to become a breeding ground for antisemitism and start the work as a community to repair this damage.
We are calling on the UCSB administration to take action and institutionalize this necessary training. Sign this petition to support this much-needed change and help our Jewish student once again feel safe on our campus.
Join us in...
- Making sure all Jewish students feel safe at UCSB
- Ensuring our UCSB Faculty and Staff have the proper education to spot antisemitism and handle it
- Helping heal some of the damage caused to our community from last years events
*This petition is in no way an attempt to harm those who aligned themselves with the "Free Palestine" movement. We simply want to encourage education and discourse to help our community heal. This isn't about placing blame, but about finding a way to move forward as a UCSB community. Regardless of political or religious beliefs, no one should be harassed, harmed, or made to feel unsafe in an educational space.
