Mandate Free Mental Health Screenings for Adolescents Aged 13-18

The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about the escalating global mental health crisis, I want to share why today's petition strikes a personal chord. I, like many others, find myself in the midst of this crisis, yearning for the ability to understand my own mental health better.

Our proposal is simple, yet impactful– we demand the mandatory implementation of free annual mental health screenings for all adolescents aged between 13-18 years. This is a crucial age bracket where mental health issues often emerge. By integrating systemic checks in this stage, we could possibly identify and address problems earlier, leading to better health outcomes for our youth.

According to the World Health Organization, 10-20% of children and adolescents worldwide experience mental disorders. In the United States, it is nearly 50% based on an article published by the National Institute of Mental Health. Half of all mental illnesses begin by the age of 14 but most cases go undetected and untreated until much later. The stigma surrounding mental health and lack of awareness only worsen the scenario.

Mandating regular mental health screenings for adolescents would be a significant step forward in curbing this crisis. Let's empower our youth with the tools they need for proper mental health care. Join us in this cause to protect our children's future. We need extensive support to bring about this change. Please sign this petition for better mental health for all!
