Mandate Factory Installation of Dash Cameras in All New Cars

Mandate Factory Installation of Dash Cameras in All New Cars
The Issue
As someone who has seen first-hand how dangerous the roads can be, the safety of my family, friends, and the public is always a paramount concern. Having experienced numerous close calls on the road, I know how important it is to have as much assistance as possible when it comes to vehicular safety.
In 2023 there were:
1,624 fatalities.
29,711 killed or seriously injured.
132,977 casualties of all severity. (Gov.uk)
that's why I believe all new cars should come factory fitted with a dash camera as standard. These devices help record incidents which can lend crucial aid during accident investigation processes.
According to SMMT there were 1,952,778 new cars registered on our roads an increase. This has seen a steady increase since COVID as buyers find themselves in more stable positions to afford luxuries such as new vehicles.
Most new vehicles come with Apps such as My Mazda, Blue Link and Ford Pass app, they could easily update these app to allow a dash cam footage section.
According to a study by the RAC, dash cams can provide drivers with a sense of protection against wrongful blame after an accident. The study also shows that dash cams recorded collisions or unexpected incidents experienced by 25% of motorists (Motor 24, 2020).
Dash cameras also aid the police in documenting driving offences, thereby encouraging better driving habits and improving road safety. The installation of these devices at a factory level would ensure a uniform standard of safety across all new vehicles and reduce the economic strain on the consumer to purchase and install this crucial piece of equipment independently.
Video footage could be kept on a cloud based system to be accessed by police and insurance companies if a vehicle is in an accident or caught speeding by radar cameras.
We owe it to ourselves and to each other to make our roads as safe as can be. Sign this petition to urge car manufacturers to install dash cameras in all new cars. Your signature can make a difference in saving lives and keeping our roads safe.
