I am a survivor of sexual assault at gunpoint, a crime committed against me as a 15 year old girl by someone I trusted - my then-boyfriend (24 yo). That shame burns. I'm further traumatized by the fact that I didn't report my abuser those many years ago. This is not a story unfamiliar across our nation.

Victims of SA deserve to heal from shame and take legal action against their abuser - an act that serves as an important step towards healing for survivors like me. 

Unfortunately, not all states provide this opportunity for justice to adult survivors of child sexual abuse or assault victims like myself. The Adult Survivors Act & Child Victim's Act have been enacted only in select states such as New York and California but should be adopted nationwide.

These acts extend or eliminate the statute of limitations on child sexual abuse cases allowing survivors more time to come forward about their experiences when they are ready (RAINN). They also create a one-year window for adult survivors previously barred by the statute of limitations to file lawsuits against their abusers (Child USA).

We need your help to urge every state legislature across America to adopt these Acts ensuring equal rights for all survivors regardless of where they live. We must end this disparity and make sure every survivor has access to justice.
