At times I have witnessed the deep scars left by domestic violence on those around me. My heart aches as these stories are not just relics of the past but are persistent echoes in the lives of many young people today.

Sadly statistics paint a stark picture: according to recent studies, individuals aged 16 to 19 are at the highest risk of experiencing domestic abuse in their intimate relationships. This alarming trend highlights an urgent need for education about domestic violence and healthy relationships, ensuring young people are equipped with the knowledge and resources to recognize and avoid abusive situations.

In many areas, the Freedom Programme has been a beacon of hope, helping many individuals understand the dynamics of domestic violence and empowering them to seek safer, healthier relationships. By incorporating such programs into our school and college curricula, starting with students aged 15, we can plant the seeds of awareness and prevention at a critical stage in their development.

Introducing domestic violence education in schools doesn't just offer theoretical knowledge; it provides practical tools and emotional intelligence necessary for young adults to navigate complex relationship landscapes. This education could be the difference between a cycle of abuse and a lifetime of empowerment. Recognizing Red Flags: appropriate Training enables teenagers to identify subtle, non-physical forms of abuse such as coercive control, stalking, and digital abuse before situations escalate. Peer Support as Teenagers are likely to confide in friends; training gives them safe advice and signposts peers to professional helplines. 

We urge educational authorities and policymakers to recognize the pressing need for this initiative.
