Mandate Crofton High to Use Real Art/Images, Not AI, in School Communications
The Issue
Art is a powerful medium of expression and serves as a vital component of a well-rounded education. Fine arts credits are required for good reason. However, when the administration chooses AI-generated art over human-produced work, it forfeits the opportunity for students to get involved creatively with the administration. Furthermore, many would make the argument that the graphics just don't look very good.
Moreover, promoting student artwork in school communications can enhance community engagement. It provides students with a platform to display their talents publicly, encouraging a sense of pride and accomplishment. It is a concrete way to recognize and celebrate the skills of artists within the Crofton High community. I know that people don't pay much attention now to the morning announcements, but if they were looking for their friends' artwork? A bit of food for thought.
A huge point of contention in recent years has been the use of AI in educational environments, and AACPS clearly takes a stance against the use of it by students, so isn't it a bit hypocritical for the school to use AI themselves?
Therefore, I call on the administration at Crofton High School to commit to using human-made art and graphics in its communications. By doing so, the school can create a more inclusive environment that values and promotes the creativity of students. Encouraging students to contribute their artwork will not only benefit them academically and socially but also strengthen the connection between the school and its students.
Join me in urging Crofton High School to embrace the artistic talents of its students and enrich its communications with meaningful, real art. Sign this petition to support a change that celebrates student creativity and diversity.
