Mandate coverage for Florida healthcare workers under workers' compensation

The Issue

As a dedicated healthcare worker in Florida, I have found myself in a challenging predicament. Despite being fully vaccinated, I've contracted COVID-19 and Influenza multiple times, hindering my ability to serve my patients and fulfill my duties. Each time I've been infected, the repercussions have extended beyond my health, impacting my livelihood and financial stability.

Recent studies, like one from the CDC, indicate that healthcare workers are three times more likely to contract infectious diseases than the general public due to their close proximity to patients and high-risk work environment. For professionals like me, this risk is an everyday reality that we bravely face, but it shouldn’t come at a cost to our financial security or ability to work safely.

Currently, the State of Florida's Worker's Compensation Policies do not explicitly cover healthcare workers diagnosed with highly contagious diseases. This policy gap leaves countless dedicated professionals at a disadvantage, at risk of losing income, and unable to cover medical expenses when they need support the most.

By amending these policies to include coverage for healthcare workers diagnosed with highly contagious diseases, we can ensure that these essential workers continue to serve our communities without fearing financial ruin due to uncontrollable illness. This change is vital for their well-being, the safety of our healthcare system, and the health of our society at large.

Let’s urge the Florida legislature to extend the Worker's Compensation Policies to include all healthcare providers with direct patient contact who contract infectious diseases. Acknowledge the sacrifices and risks they take every day by providing them with the protection and security they rightfully deserve.

Please sign this petition to call for change and advocate for the rights and well-being of all Florida healthcare workers. Your support can make a significant difference.
