I work a standard Monday to Friday job, but I find myself itching for productive use of my weekends. Through work, I gain a sense of satisfaction and progress, but I don't want to do it for free.
This personal story is not mine alone. There are numerous others like me who want to work over the weekend, to meet personal and professional goals and to bolster their earnings.
Unfortunately, the current rigid structures do not allow for such flexibility in the workplace, leading to an untapped potential labor force during weekends.
According to a study by Stanford University Professors, flexible work hours increase productivity and decrease turnover rates, proving beneficial for both employees and companies (Bloom et al., 2015). They concluded that "work-from-home options and shorter work weeks lead to increased productivity". This data substantiates the need for change in our corporate structures to allow weekend work hours for those who opt for it.
In view of this, we demand that companies be mandated to offer optional weekend work, with the provision of additional pay for these hours. This policy would not only give employees the choice and freedom to work according to their needs, but also contribute to the overall growth and productivity of our economy.
