Mandate Braille Accommodations in All Buildings to Support the Visually Impaired
The Issue
I am deeply moved by the struggles of countless visually impaired individuals who are unable to access resources or perform certain tasks due to a lack of necessary accommodations. This issue is personal for me, as I have Retinitis Pigmentosa and have even seen many people struggle with daily activities such as operating a motor vehicle or maneuvering around a location such as school.
It's time we demand change. We need legislation that mandates all buildings, regardless of type, to provide braille versions of text-based content including signs, menus, books and more. The absence of such accommodations should be considered illegal and charged under "Failure to accommodate the visually impaired," resulting in jail time and hefty fines.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 2.2 billion people globally have a vision impairment or blindness. Despite this staggering number, there remains a significant lack of accessibility options for these individuals in our society.
This is not just about providing equal opportunities; it's about respecting human rights and ensuring that everyone has access to information and services they need for their daily lives.
We urge lawmakers and building owners alike to consider this proposal seriously. It's time we make our world accessible for all its inhabitants regardless of their physical abilities. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating an inclusive society where no one is left behind due to their visual impairment.
