Mandate Body Safety Education in All U.S. Schools
The Issue
I made a list of ways to protect our children because this might be one of the most important issues I’ve ever addressed. Let’s talk about teaching proper names for body parts. Using terms like penis, vagina, and anus helps our children communicate more clearly and prevents shame around their bodies. It’s crucial for them to understand that their bodies belong to them and they have the right to say no to unwanted contact. We must also reinforce that secrets are never okay, and adults should never ask children to keep them.
Children need to know they won’t be in trouble if they share these secrets. It’s alarming to realize that unsafe behavior often comes from known adults, which is why we need to teach boundaries for private parts – no one should see, photograph, or touch them. Another red flag to watch for is grooming behaviors: excessive alone time, constant gifts, and praise from adults are red flags.
Monitoring online activity is also vital. Our children need to know not to talk to strangers or send pictures online, and they should feel empowered to make a scene if any adult crosses their boundaries. The idea is not to make them fearful, but safe and informed. Sexual abuse occurs every day, and education is key to prevention.
That’s why we must mandate body safety education in all U.S. schools. This education can empower children with the knowledge they need to protect themselves from abuse, making a real difference in their lives. Let’s ensure our kids feel safe, comfortable, and informed.
