Mandate Background Checks for California Ewaste Recyclers

Mandate Background Checks for California Ewaste Recyclers
The Issue
My personal nightmare began when I discovered that a company listed on the Cal Recycle website fraudulently used my social security number and those of my two sons, leading to tax fraud against our family. We have been on a relentless pursuit of justice with multiple police agencies involved. They are trying to remove convicted felons and registered sex offenders from the same company off the approved list to ensure our safety, especially in schools.
The State of California prides itself on championing green initiatives and responsible recycling. However, allowing companies to operate without stringent checks undermines this mission. It's troubling to think that those assumed trustworthy in handling sensitive electronic waste could exploit such information maliciously.
Cal Recycle, managing California’s electronic waste recycling, must enhance its vetting process. Implementing mandatory criminal background checks for companies seeking to be listed as trusted ewaste recyclers is the first step. Such a measure would protect numerous families especially women from falling victim to unethical practices.
Currently, some companies, despite having a façade of reliability, engage in fraudulent activities and pose significant security threats. By introducing background checks, we can deter individuals with criminal backgrounds and ensure only ethical businesses participate in these programs.
It is imperative to prioritize the safety and security of our communities. Taxpayers deserve the peace of mind that their personal information, alongside their contributions to environmental sustainability, remains protected.
Join me in urging Cal Recycle to mandate criminal background checks for all ewaste recyclers. Sign this petition to help preserve the trust and integrity of California's recycling initiatives.
