I have personally encountered individuals who live alone in apartment buildings but are prohibited from having pets due to their landlord's policy. This, in my view, is unacceptable. It is my belief that all rental properties should legally be required to be pet-friendly, including apartments, rental houses, and retirement homes.

Pets are more than just animals; they are companions and family members. They can provide emotional support and improve mental health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pets can decrease feelings of loneliness and increase opportunities for socialization, outdoor activities, and exercise.

Despite these benefits, many landlords still prohibit pets in their properties. A study by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) found that housing issues are one of the leading reasons why pets are surrendered to animal shelters.

This needs to change! We must advocate for laws requiring all rental properties - not just limited to apartments but also including rental houses and retirement homes - to be pet-friendly under penalty of law. Let's ensure that no one has to choose between a place they call home or their beloved pet ever again.
