Mandate Advertising of Claire's Law on Dating Platforms
The Issue
Too many lives are shattered by domestic violence—yet many victims could have been protected if they had known the truth about their partner.
Claire’s Law, officially known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, gives people the right to ask police whether their partner has a history of abusive or violent behaviour. This simple step can save lives by helping people make informed choices about their relationships. Importantly, it applies to all genders and all sexualities.
But here’s the problem: far too few people even know this law exists. This lack of awareness leaves many at risk—especially those who meet partners through dating apps and social media, where dangerous relationships often begin.
That’s why we are calling on dating platforms and social media companies to step up. Just as they regularly promote scam warnings and online safety tips, they should routinely advertise Claire’s Law. Doing so would raise awareness, empower users, and help prevent abuse before it starts.
The statistics are chilling: according to the National Centre for Domestic Violence, 1 in 5 adults will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime—that’s 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6–7 men. Behind every statistic is a real person who might have been spared suffering if they’d had access to this vital information.
By promoting Claire’s Law, dating apps and social media platforms can become powerful allies in the fight against domestic violence.
👉 Sign this petition today and help us make Claire’s Law visible and accessible to everyone who needs it. Together, we can protect lives and promote safer, healthier relationships.
