We are calling on the Department for Education to institute a structured, chronological English history curriculum across all Key Stages in UK schools. Our history—both its triumphs and its mistakes—should be taught accurately and fully, fostering a shared understanding of our nation's story from ancient times to the modern era.

Reason for Signing:
To understand where Great Britain is heading, our young people need a clear, unvarnished, and accurate foundation in where we came from. History should not be selectively rewritten, minimized, or reduced to fragmented narratives. It must be learned as a continuous narrative so that future generations can understand the foundations of our society, parliamentary democracy, and national institutions.

We call for a clear, chronological history framework implemented across UK schools:

Primary
Focus on the foundations of the nation, from the Roman and Viking invasions (circa 50 AD) up to the unification and crowning of the first King of England, Athelstan.

Middle
Trace the growth of the realm through the Medieval period, Magna Carta, the Reformation, and leading up to the English Civil War and the execution of Charles I.

High School / Secondary : Parliament and the Modern Era
Cover the establishment of constitutional monarchy, the Industrial Revolution, Britain’s global role, the World Wars, and key 20th-century developments up to the year 2000.

Why this matters:
History should be taught in its entirety—owning both the achievements and the mistakes of the past. By delivering an accurate, chronological account of English history, we give the next generation the knowledge needed to engage thoughtfully with national identity, appreciate our democratic heritage, and learn from the past rather than re-evaluating it through modern lenses alone.

We urge the Department for Education to review the current history syllabus and establish a grounded, chronological curriculum for all schools.
