Would you like to see the big white model of Manchester showing the planned towers? We’ve just heard today that it will be at Manchester Central Library on Wednesday 19th October from 11.30am to 7pm. After complaints about the very public limited consultation, the developers have arranged at really short notice for the plans and the model to be made available "to offer another opportunity for members of the public to view them before the submission of a planning application". There’s no suggestion they propose any changes, though. Every building on the model is coloured white - including the planned big black towers - which isn’t an honest or realistic way to show their impact, but will still give you an idea of how big they are, and how close to the Town Hall. This mock-up picture is from the far side of Albert Square, near Piccolinos - these two huge black towers will loom larger than the 47 storey Beetham Tower, half a mile away, as they're so close. Very few people in Greater Manchester have been asked for their opinion at all, and only a tiny number had a chance to see the model and plans last month, so this is a welcome one-off opportunity to see for yourself. The developers will be counting people and comments, and obviously hoping for lots of yesses to cancel out the 2500 in this petition saying NO. So - if you or friends, colleagues or family can visit on Wednesday 19th and leave your written opinion - however brief - it would count for a lot. It would be really valuable - really!! If you can't get there, it would be helpful to email the developers on enquiries@st-michaels.com to let them know what you think. No special invitations will be sent out, and the local press hasn’t even been contacted yet - we’ve just told them today and hope they can get the news out quickly. It’s so close - next Wednesday and it's Friday tomorrow! The more voices that can be heard on this, the better - please do go along or comment by email if you possibly can. Big thanks, Lesley
