Mama Dog Dolly and her six, two week old puppies were rescued, purchased and saved from the unbelievably vile conditions of "Flying High Mini Aussies" in Madison, Nebraska, a state licensed, notorious nationwide puppy mill (HSUS 2022 Horrible 100 list). Grants Wishes pet rescue was contacted by the property owner concerning welfare and conditions of the dogs on what was believed to be abandoned property.
The breeder was under notice to vacate the property or seek rehabilitation for a drug addiction. The breeder had not been staying on the property for weeks. Her "employee", an unpaid person the breeder stranded at the property to care for the dogs with no dog food, no phone, no money and no transportation, voluntarily vacated the property the morning of June 1st when confronted by the County Attorney and the property owner for illegally squatting on the property.
Upon discovery of Dolly and puppies in ill health and conditions of the home facility worse than expected, the property owner requested rescue services. Grants Wishes, a state licensed rescue, picked up Dolly and puppies on June 1st to provided much needed medical care, food water and shelter per the property owner's request and with the understanding they were abandoned property.
This should have been the end of the story, but it is not. Late afternoon of June 3rd, the breeder returns to the property and posts to the Flying High Mini Aussies Facebook page what can only be described as a unhinged, bizarre, under the influence video asserting "ALL her dogs are gone". This led to an even stranger series of events in which the breeder files a theft report for 18 dogs. The numbers do not add up. May 28th the breeder reported to the rescue she had a total of 17 dogs. Since April 4th the rescue had been trying to help the breeder reduce her numbers as she stated "she had gotten in over her head" A Nebraska shelter was also working with the breeder to purchase all the dogs to shut down the breeding facility.
A series of harassment tactics directed at the rescue and volunteers have culminated in search warrants being issued and Mama Dog Dolly being seized and lodged in doggy jail while Joe Smith, Madison County Attorney decides Dolly's fate.
Wait, there is more to this story....
On June 13th, after two years of unacceptable Department of Ag inspections and non compliance by the breeder, a warrant to seize all dogs at the breeding facility is issued. The warrant states, puppies believed to have been eaten by adult dogs, deteriorating conditions due to lack of feeding, and probable cause for animal cruelty neglect charges. The breeder is homeless and recently arrested for drug possession.
Veterinary records indicate Dolly was malnourished. She was no longer producing milk, she had mastitis, she was anemic and bleeding vaginally. Dolly was so sick she collapsed on the floor. If the property owner had not requested help, Dolly and her pups would have died. In addition to purchasing Dolly and her pups, approximately $1200 was spent by the rescue to save her life. The good news is that Dolly and all six puppies survived their ordeal!
On July 15th Dolly was removed by the Madison County Sheriff from her foster home, as safe environment where she was learning to trust, eat dog food, go to the bathroom outside, and not be afraid. Now she sits in a jail cell. Dolly didn't do anything wrong. Long term shelter life is not good for a dog's mental or physical health. A shelter, however, is better than the feces infested place the breeder left her in, a state licensed breeding facility the Nebraska Department of Agriculture allowed to neglect dogs since the license was issued in 2019.
Dolly needs help! Please sign the petition asking Madison County Attorney, Joe Smith, to release Dolly back to Grant's Wishes, who legitimately rescued, paid for, and saved from death.
