Healthcare is in crisis, and we need to act now to make it safe for everyone involved. Healthcare workers are on the front lines, risking their lives every day to care for patients. But they are facing burnout, systemic failures, and a lack of support from the very institutions they serve.

Since 2018, legislation around the world (mostly UK and Canada) has been amended to include psychosocial risks (mental health risks) to health and safety legislation. Australia just changed it this year in April - see amendment here - and update to all employers here.

We would like to see Health & Safety legislation in Aotearoa New Zealand amended to include psychosocial risk management to ensure safe, fair, and thriving workplaces are possible in all industries - especially healthcare. This petition is one part of our campaign, functioning alongside the survey that we have developed with Professor Jarrod Haar (Massey University) and chnnl’s Founder, Dr Elizabeth Berryman to measure the current state of psychosocial risk in the NZ workforce.

We cannot afford to stand by and watch as healthcare workers suffer, and patients' lives are put at risk. We need to demand change, and we need to do it now. We must change legislation that protects healthcare workers and makes the healthcare system safer and more reliable.

This is a call to arms. We must stand together and make our voices heard. We need to advocate for healthcare workers and demand that they receive the support and protection they deserve. We need to hold our elected officials accountable and demand legislative change that prioritizes the safety of healthcare workers and patients.

Signing petitions is just the first step. We need to come together as a community and demand that our voices be heard. We need to make it clear that we will not tolerate a healthcare system that puts profit over people. We must demand a healthcare system that is safe, reliable, and compassionate.
