Make Wyandotte crosswalks safer for pedestrian children and adults
The Issue
Wyandotte Michigan is a beautiful city. It has a bustling downtown with parks and elementary schools dotted throughout. It is centered entirely around vehicle transport. If you are a child walking to school or an adult walking downtown you face danger every time you leave the house. I wish I was exaggerating, and you may think I am but I will prove I'm not.
3 children have been struck by vehicles so far this year just walking to school. It is only a matter of time until it happens again and one of them dies. The city will do what it has all the other times, absolutely nothing.
Crosswalks throughout the city have been neglected for decades and pedestrians are paying the price for faded lines and non-existent signage.
As a driver do you think you'd be able to see the pedestrian right of way in time on this road? Remember there are no signs warning you

How about this one?

These are two examples found in minutes on Google maps. There are countless others just like this. The city's response to repeated pedestrian vs vehicle accidents shouldn't be "brush up on your frogger skills" it should be action. Ecorse has bike lanes, Farmington has flashing yield signs for crosswalks. I am biased but I believe Wyandotte should be safer for pedestrians than those cities. We can afford it without any special milage for the residents, literally the only thing holding the city back is lack of caring.

Non raised crosswalks with clear signage and freshly painted lines should be mandatory every 1/4th mile on main residential thoroughfares throughout the city.(Oak, Ford, Goddard, Emmons)

Raised crosswalks with advanced road markings and signs should be required on every crossing within 500 feet of a school.
Please sign this petition and let the city know Pedestrians should have a chance to enjoy this city just as safely as drivers.
