Make Woody Lane Safer for Children and Families

Make Woody Lane Safer for Children and Families
The Issue
Petition to the Town of Huntington
Woody Lane in Northport has become increasingly dangerous for the families and children who live here.
Many middle school students walk this road every morning because they live too close to the school to receive bus transportation. At the same time, Woody Lane and nearby streets are often used as shortcuts between larger roads like Middleville Road, leading to frequent speeding and unsafe driving.
Residents have witnessed numerous close calls involving children walking to school, riding bikes, or simply playing in their neighborhood. Recently, a vehicle even overturned on Woody Lane during the morning hours when children were walking to school — a serious incident that highlights the urgent need to address traffic safety on this residential street.
Our neighborhood streets should be safe for the families who live here and for the students who walk to school each day.
We are asking the Town of Huntington to conduct a traffic safety review of Woody Lane and surrounding streets and to consider implementing traffic-calming measures such as:
• Speed bumps or speed tables
• Additional stop signs
• Increased enforcement during school hours
• Traffic calming measures
These proactive steps can help slow traffic and protect the children and families who rely on these streets every day.
By signing this petition, we ask the Town to prioritize pedestrian safety and work with residents to make Woody Lane a safer place for everyone.
If you live in Northport and want safer streets for kids walking to school, please sign and share.
