Make Uber and Lyft Accessible for Disabled Riders Traveling Between Cities

Make Uber and Lyft Accessible for Disabled Riders Traveling Between Cities
The Issue
As a person with cerebral palsy living in New York City, I frequently rely on Uber and Lyft for transportation. While these services offer the ability for able-bodied individuals to travel between NYC and surrounding areas like New Jersey or Long Island, there is a critical issue for disabled riders. Once you are dropped off at your destination, the option for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is no longer available for your return trip, leaving you stranded and at risk.
Uber and Lyft’s current policies fail to accommodate disabled individuals who need accessible rides for round trips between cities. This gap in service not only limits our mobility but also endangers our safety, as we have no reliable way to return to our starting point.
Many disabled individuals around the country face similar challenges, and this lack of accessible return transportation affects their ability to work, visit friends or family, and engage in everyday activities. This issue affects thousands of people who depend on these services.
We urge Uber and Lyft to revise their policies to ensure that wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available for return trips from destinations outside of NYC. This change is crucial for ensuring equal access to transportation for all individuals, regardless of disability.
Your support can help make transportation accessible for everyone. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a change that will improve the lives of countless disabled individuals and promote equality in transportation services.
Thank you for your support,
