Make two Stamford Little League fields turf
The Issue
As a dedicated volunteer for the Stamford Little League for several years, I have witnessed firsthand the immense dedication and enthusiasm of our children. However, our league of over 900 young players is continuously facing challenges due to weather-related cancellations. These setbacks not only disrupt the schedule but also dampen the spirit of our young athletes who eagerly await their turn to play each week.
The Springdale and Scalzi fields are at the core of this issue. Unfortunately, their current state leaves them prone to weather conditions, resulting in numerous cancellations and subsequent rescheduling. This situation creates logistical headaches for families and league organizers alike, who work tirelessly to support the children's love for the game.
By converting the Springdale and Scalzi fields to turf, we can offer a consistent and safer playing environment. Turf fields are more resilient to varying weather conditions, which means fewer cancelled games and more playtime for our kids. This change will not only benefit the players but also the entire Stamford community by promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance through consistent practice and games.
According to studies from sports infrastructure experts, turf fields reduce maintenance costs significantly and offer a longer lifespan compared to natural grass. Moreover, they provide an even playing surface, decreasing the risk of injuries and enhancing the overall playing experience.
We urge local officials and the Stamford Parks and Recreation Department to prioritize this essential upgrade. The shift to turf fields is an investment in our children's health, happiness, and growth.
Sign this petition to transform these fields and ensure that the Stamford Little League continues to thrive, rain or shine.
