Make Twitch a better media platform.
The Issue
Since Twitch has become a popular media platform, there arises a few problems. These problems at first may become small issues; however, some of these issues will eventually be pr nightmares that will cause interventions by various agencies. In order to combat these issues, I have some suggestions.
-Have a probationary period for suspended/banned accounts.
To have some banned accounts return with more viewers and more profit seems counter-intuitive. It can be considered an exploit in several cases. To counteract, I am suggesting a probation period based off of 48-72 hours where the recently unbanned streamer get little or no revenue till the probation ends. The stream must be active, which means sleeping streams and reruns would not count towards the probation. This can also make bans and suspensions matter by getting rid of an exploit to get better revenue.
Better administrators, staff and moderators.
Going to be honest, some people do not do a great job at monitoring suspicious activity. Twitch needs people who are impartial and willing to enforce rules whenever possible. These people need to be put through a rigorous check so the site gets professionals. It will sort out the wasteful resources by replacing them with highly competent workers.
Use the relationship with Amazon as a profitable means to an end.
What I mean is this. Since Twitch is owned by Amazon, it would be expected to be used as a revenue stream. My idea is this. For the games and products used of Twitch, there should be referral links to products on Amazon. This will make Twitch into a bridge for products. This can also work if referral ads were placed to the side or bottom of the streamer's page, making it less of an annoyance. Another idea I had was to sell streamer kits for people that want to be streamers. These streamer kits can be a variety of PCs with various programs, streaming software and streaming equipment. It can be linked to Amazon-sold products which would be a good deferral, while payment plans can be implemented if things are expensive.
Actually make negative influences/streamers accountable (also known as holding the W Community accountable for their actions).
I have seen various communities and the streamers they are based off of cause so many problems that it can cause pr problems in the long run. There should be methods to hold those people accountable, like advisory warning of demonetization of specific streamers. If these streamers are allowing their fans to partake in death threats and other heinous things, then they should be responsible for their fans' actions.
The political landmine.
In all honesty, politics and Twitch are a bad combination. You have streamers using politics as an excuse to make racially charged segments (like the Sabra or not Sabra event that occurred). There are also political streams that make cause issues for Twitch sooner or later by brazenly justifying their support towards potentially dubious things. My idea is to drastically lower the revenue political streamers receive so they do not cause further issues for sponsors to inquire about. They should also be under heavy scrutiny since there are various political spectrums and various countries with different political landscapes.
The lolita landmine.
This is more of a Vtuber thing, but it should be a recognizable issue. As someone who has watched vtuber, I can say this. Having people, Mostly adults, portray themselves as child-like models can be a slippery slope. This can lead into possibly sexual portrayals or people becoming extremely parasocial. In a lot of cases, this is an adult portraying a child. In some cases, you listen to a child-like model explaining sexual activities or having a period. In this situation, you do not want a sponsor for an adult or mature product to advertise under a stream where a child model is explaining something. My idea is to disincentivize child-like models by two things. One is to require ID in order to verify that the person under the child-like model is an adult. This is so they know what their responsibilities a vtuber are. Another is to lower their revenue, possibly significantly, in order to dissuade against using child-like models. In some jurisdictions, portrayals of people and children can be rather risky, especially in countries with laws that are supposed to protect against sexual portrayals or child abuse. I would also could chibi models/alternate chibi forms towards this topic.
There should be community groups/councils.
An idea I had was to have various communities have small groups/councils as representatives. The groups should be based off of people with major influence on Twitch. There can be councils based off of: the vtuber community, the W community, various e sports communities, the political community. Admins can discuss with the representatives of these communities various issues that arise and their solutions.
Anyways, there are my ideas to improve Twitch, so it can be considered a viable platform. Some of these may be rather controversial, but these reasons have a purpose in making Twitch a safer and viable place.
