Make Turramurra Tower better

The issue

A developer wants to build a huge Turramurra Tower. Replacing the shops along the highway between 7-Eleven and Kissing Point Rd.

We'd all like the area renewed, but this proposal would DAMAGE TURRAMURRA FOREVER!  We can make it better!

What we want

  1. Save our streets! We need the developer to put in twice as many parking spaces… otherwise all our local streets will be filled by the extra cars. Council would put 2hr limits all around.
  2. Save the planet! Commuter parking saves the planet by taking cars off the road. We demand that the developer build 100 “Park and Ride” Commuter parking spaces.
  3. Save Turramurra! Nine stories is too tall!

Commuter parking saves the planet!
Commuter parking gets people off  the road and into trains. We should encourage people to use public transport. This development would swamp our unlimited and commuter parking, putting more cars on the road.

Turramurra Tower won't have NEARLY enough parking!
We’re so lucky here in Turramurra because we have almost enough parking. But once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. Local families won’t be able to park outside their own homes anymore.

The plan is for around 300 bedrooms but only about 150 resident parking spaces and zero visitor parking spaces. We need at least twice that!

The new residents cars will overflow into our streets and swamp our precious untimed and commuter parking. We can expect that Council would then restrict our local streets to around 2hrs. Our limited precious commuter parking will be swamped by these new residents.

The retail parking is in a basement - so ducking up to the local to get bread or milk will be a hassle!

Nine stories is too tall!
Council are about to give the developer an increase the height from 5 to 9 stories and sell them community land. This gives the developer a windfall profit!  (There's still a final vote in early November).

This huge windfall profit should be spent to benefit our residents and make Turramurra better. Not just developer profit which will harm our streets forever.

We can do better

On the highway at Lindfield and Roseville there are new 5 story developments replacing daggy old shops. Why not here too? Balfour St has generous parking. Lindfield Village Green added over 100 precious "Park and Ride" commuter parking spaces. We can do better!

If this goes ahead it’s a terrible precedent for the future development of the Coles carpark across the road - resulting in truly monster buildings!

What's in it for us?
Not much! They're offering an empty concrete space as a 'community centre'. But Turramurra already has three community centers, lots of church halls and up the road there’s Ku-ring-gai Town Hall. This space should be commuter parking.

There's a tiny little *park* that is more like a resident courtyard/garden - but paid for by us. And there's some road improvements which would be required for any development here.
